Wooden tableware is very common in our daily furniture, but it's troublesome to clean, which is a problem many people complain about. So, how should wooden tableware be maintained? Let's take a look! Storage is key: Wooden tableware should not be placed in damp or waterlogged areas, otherwise it is prone to mold and attracting insects, which is also one of the reasons why wooden tableware turns black! Timely cleaning: Compared with ceramic or iron tableware, wooden tableware has a relatively shorter lifespan! After use, it needs to be washed as soon as possible. If necessary, hang it to dry.
Choice is important:
The lifespan of wooden tableware is closely related to its material. If we choose high-quality wood such as mahogany or rosewood, we can avoid many problems! The simplest method is rinsing: After each use of wooden spoons, spatulas, and other wooden utensils, simply rinse them with warm water. Soaking in clean water is not recommended, as this may cause bacterial growth and eventually cause the wood to crack. When washing these wooden tableware, it is recommended to use a neutral detergent and hand wash them with a dish sponge or other cleaning tools that will not damage the wooden spoons and spatulas. It is not recommended to put wooden tableware in a dishwasher, as the quick dry function of the dishwasher may damage its surface. After washing, it is recommended to dry the wooden tableware with a clean towel before storing it.
Removing Stains and Odors. Baking soda and lemon juice can not only eliminate odors from wooden tableware (such as spoons and spatulas), but also remove stubborn stains. First, sprinkle about one teaspoon of baking soda on the surface of a standard-sized wooden tableware. The amount of baking soda used should be adjusted according to the size of the tableware; larger tableware requires more baking soda, and smaller tableware requires less. Next, squeeze lemon juice onto the baking soda, or omit the lemon juice and directly mix the baking soda with water to form a paste, then apply it to the wooden tableware. Gently rub the surface with your fingers or a clean cloth to allow the baking soda and lemon juice to fully penetrate. If possible, try to clean along the grain of the wood. Finally, rinse the wooden tableware with water. If the stains are not completely removed, repeat the above steps until the tableware is completely clean. If the stains are very stubborn, you can also add a small amount of coarse salt to the baking soda.
Sodium Percarbonate
Besides using baking soda and lemon juice, you can also use a cleaner containing sodium percarbonate to clean these wooden tableware. Simply dissolve 1 tablespoon of sodium percarbonate in about 1 liter of water (or follow the instructions on the product packaging), then soak the wooden tableware in the water. Wash the tableware with your hands, a sponge, or a cloth, then soak it in the water for a few minutes. This not only cleans but also disinfects. Finally, rinse the wooden tableware with warm water and wipe it with a clean cloth.
Vinegar also has its uses!
If your wooden tableware has an odor, you can also use vinegar to clean it. Vinegar is even better at deodorizing. Simply mix hot water and white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio, then soak the wooden tableware in the vinegar water for about 30 minutes. Finally, rinse the tableware with hot water and wipe it dry.
